Community Grant program

We’ve partnered with LCRA’s Community Grant program, which helps volunteer fire departments, local governments, emergency responders and nonprofit organizations fund capital improvement projects in LCRA’s wholesale electric, water and transmission service areas.

Applications for the next round of grants will be accepted in January of 2026. More information is available at LCRA's grant page.

New partners must submit a W-9 to their community representative to receive their donation.

Bluebonnet will provide water and/or fans — pending their availability — at community-wide events such as fire department fundraisers and festivals. They are not available for private events like weddings or family reunions.

Bluebonnet fans require access to electricity, within 25 feet.

Groups eligible to receive grants are nonprofit organizations such as fire departments, emergency responders, cities and counties, schools, libraries, civic groups and museums.

The Community Grant program grants fund a variety of capital improvement projects to enhance local communities. Examples of recent awards include funding for emergency equipment for first responders; improvements to fire stations, parks, libraries and community centers; energy-efficient lighting and electrical upgrades for museums and community sports fields; air conditioning units in convention centers; rainwater catchment systems; and roof repairs and handicapped-accessible ramps for local museums and community halls.

Grants are awarded twice a year. Applications are due by midnight on Jan. 31 and July 31. The review process can take up to eight weeks after the deadline has passed.

LCRA and Bluebonnet award grant of up to $50,000 to worthy community projects in the LCRA wholesale power, water and transmission service territory through the Community Grant program.

Due to limited funds, the Community Grant program review committee may occasionally award a smaller grant than requested.

Grants of more than $5,000 require a match of at least 20 percent of the total project cost. The matching funds must be documented in the grant application by providing financial or bank statements and/or letters of credit or monetary support. Learn more at lcra.org/cdpp.

Organizations must wait 24 months after grant funds are received and complete the prior grant-funded project before becoming eligible to apply for another grant.
